For our animation project we decided to deal with identities. We wanted to create this story from the point of view of a secular woman in the jewish society.
We feel a lot of people define Identities by looking at a particular group, but even inside of those groups there are different Identities and different stories.
Presenting a moral that everyone has a different narrative was our goal.
We decided to use a famous Israeli children's story that we grew up with: "The Green Man". In the story, the green man lives in a green city, in a green house with his green family. One day, he sees a blue man and asks him: "what are you doing here?". The blue man replays: "Me? I'm from a different story".
As for our point of view, in this story the green man will be a Hassidic Jew and the blue man will be a secular woman.
The process:
After main and Dalit’s brainstorming, we had a plan of our order of scenes and the storyboars. Drawing it by hand first, helped me quite a lot going forward.
Our working method:
I will sketch all the illustrations
Dalit will add a graphic layer
We will make the animation together via zoom
It took me a while to find the right line and style for our character and for the entire senses. It was a great opportunity for me to develop my illustrations skills.
After sending Dalit our first two senses she sent me a few options for the graphic layer, the one that had an hand drawing feeling with water coloers texture was the chosen style.
We worked like a factory line, I sent Dalit each sence and she added a graphic layer to it.
Then, we did the animation together in zoom
We had some kind of a collage look, so we used a lot of masking.
We used different effects such as stroke, turbulence and typewriter. We wanted to create a drawing feeling to the animation, we also used wiggle expressions. For the movement of the flowers we used the Puppet master.
After we finished we did a few touch ups and focused to get the timing of the visual and the sound right.
